On Thursday I grabbed my Espressmente $7.57 mocha and headed down to the satellite tables to play a $500 satellite with two winners. To put this in golf terms, if the difficulty level of a regular poker tournament equates to the U.S. Open at Olympic Club, then a Venetian satellite is about as tough as your local miniature golf putt putt course. Most players are simply recreational players that want to take a cheap shot at getting in that day's big tournament. If you win a satellite you can use your winnings to buy into the expensive regular tournament that day. Also, players don't understand the strategy of how to play a two winner tournament. When you combine the two you have a good day at the office upcoming! The satellite went as planned and I was one of the winners with the added bonus I won the last longer. A last longer is when everyone puts an agreed on amount of money into the pot and the last person remaining wins that pool of money. It's a good deal because the poker room doesn't get a cut of this money. The only down side to the morning was that the satellite lasted so long the first two levels of the the Venetian DS that day ($2500 buy in) had passed. As you will see, you always want to play the first two levels of a tournament. It is a time where the bad players will make big mistakes and give away a lot of chips. I played one more satellite on Thursday, watched my AK go down in flames to AQ (no, you cannot win them all!) and relaxed and got ready for Friday.
